Anssi 8000 - Master of modern music

song by song introduction to ”Kyklops vs. Svesse” (2CD on Bone Voyage) in the words of Mr. Heikki Lemmetyinen, a modern music historian from Helsinki, Finland

Anssi 8000: Kyklops / CD1

The master of modern music who operates from the remote village of Sahalahti is finally back with a follow up release to his classic debut recording "Sahalahti Shakedown". Unlike the authentic field recordings done in the artist shack in Sahalahti, this time the music of Anssi 8000 has been recorded in the most modern of modern methods, using all the possibilities of today’s state of the art studio equipment. The most accomplished of modern sound engineers have captured the pristine sounds with the most powerful powertools of electric/digital recording industry. Now it’s a laser sharp sound that has been recorded digitally and then processed in the most modern of modern digital ways and finally laser-pressed onto the shiny surface of a laser-cd-digital/electric disk. Only now we can be sure that we actually can hear the real sound of the master of modern music, Anssi 8000. The most modern of modern laser recording studio technic gives us a strong guarantee of that.

This record, Kyklops, starts with a short intro that already proves the language barrier breaking power of Anssi 8000's music. A famous Mexican artist Gustavo Artigas makes some points about the record industry in general. He has recorded his voice in Mexico city, and send the sound in an electric form via telecommunication lines to a modern music studio in Finland. That itself is a testament to the power of laser-age music making methods.

The second number, and the actual first song on this record is "Squirrel Song". It is a good example of the wonderfulness of Anssi 8000’s musical masterhood. The one man orchestra kicks the kick drum and the snare drum in a very enthralling way. The playing of guitar is raw and sensitive at the same time. The singing is burning with rock rawness, yet it still is so very soothingly melodic. Structure wise, the song divides into two parts. The first part is built like the classic pop songs with verses and choruses, and the second part is a gleaming end-crescendo where the angelic vocals of a backing vocalist Maria Heinonen takes the song to a new level of spirituality.

"Daytime Countryside" is as beautiful as a beautiful day in the Sahalahti landscape. Flexible rhythm and a catchy sing-a-long melody is so good it puts shame on most of today’s acclaimed writers of pop songs. The whistling part in the middle of the tune is bound to make music history much in the way of, let’s say, that whistling tune from the movie "The Brigde on River Kwai".

The fourth song, "Styrofoam Home", finds Anssi 8000 in a more fast rhythmic environment. Now the house is rocking and banging, and it also suits the master of modern music so greatly.

"Normality" brings forward yet a new side of style spectrum of Anssi 8000. Only a soothing acoustic guitar accompanies the gentle singing stylings. When there’s so much humane substance in a song, you can get by with lesser instrumentation. It’s also exciting to hear a song without the one basic factor of Anssi 8000 trademark style, the drums played by feet. This way the nice melody comes forward even more.

"Bomb In The Building" is again a more raw rock number. Exceptionally fuzzed and crunchy distortion guitar sound combines with some extraordinary drumming gimmicks. And yet the master of modern music has not forgot to write a good melody for this song too.

The seventh piece is called "Cast Away". The moving rhythm pattern goes nicely along with the slightly cleaner guitar work, as if Anssi 8000 has been reaching for some musical lightness to accompany the horrowing dark tale of being "cast away like Crusoe" on an island that time forgot.

"Heart Is a Flying Fortress" is somewhat a Key Song on this record. It features all the best key features of the music of the master of modern music from Sahalahti. The skilful rhythmic dynamics, the original sound of churning the pick against the strings of a guitar and the flexible and varying singing all go together here. The singing itself is one thing, there are the moments of whispering and the moments of shouting, yet it all is very intense and intimate. This cornerstone number of Anssi 8000’s live shows has been masterfully captured on modern digital laser-cd here by the most accomplished of modern sound engineers.

"Somebody's Gotta Work" takes a whole another direction and form. It’s acoustic and minimal in it’s reflection of the value of work in our modern day society. Yet it builds up to an almost cosmic scale as the synthezizer workings of sound engineer and producer Arttu Tolonen come in to the picture in the end of this musical collage.

Then it’s time to go back to the hectic rhythmics as "The New House" begins with raw drumming and guitar strumming. The vocel melody is almost as simple as a children’s song. This is how the master of modern music is able to connect to humans of all ages. The subject matter and the overall tone may be adult, but the melody springs joy in the heart of the young and old alike.

"Motor Explosion" tells us the sad story of a motor. Here too it’s the angelic voice of backing vocalist Maria Heinonen that brings a new kind of dramatics to this little story of everyday existence.

The record ends with the most introspective tale of "Touche". Anssi 8000 is so very much in the moment in this song that the listener has no choice but to stop and listen to this masterpiece captured on digital tape using the most modern of modern laser-age-cd studio equipment. "Kyklops" is a record that will stand in a class of it’s own and start a big change in the global music business. For the first time we are able to listen to the whole spectrum of emotions that Anssi 8000, a master of modern music is able to produce.

Anssi 8000: Svesse / CD2

Another brilliant recording by the master of modern music is always a pleasure for the music-loving community of the world. Especially if it’s yet again recorded with the most omodern of most modern laser-age state of the art electric/digital powertools of a modern studio environment. AS is Svesse, a true testimony to the electric form of nowaday’s music.

First off an international artist Gustavo Artigas makes a speech about the music industry as a token for his appreciation for the master of modern music. Very touching indeed this is.

The second song is an instant classic in a long line of classic produced by Anssi 8000. "Save Me" deals with the burden and fight of a Christian. It is a very well written hit song and it features the backing vocalisation of Ville Pirinen and Arttu Tolonen, both very gifted singers. It has the best of Anssi 8000's typical style of drumming and guitarring.

"Daddy On The Phone" is a sure shot hit song that has already swept the nation as a live show showstopper. It’s a deep tale of a phone conversation with the artists father, and in being such, it deals with the most complex of issues such as voice-changing robots and nations without them. Arttu Tolonen brings on some studio handclaps and the beautiful singing of Maria Heinonen is the icing on the musical cake of this great number.

"Hoax" takes a critical view on the fashion statements in today’s society. It has got the raw energy of Anssi 8000's voice and powerful guitar, and it speaks volumes with the very hooky synthezizer hook in it’s chorus. The song has a certain aura about it.

"Getting It The Easy Way" Bursts out of the speakers like a volcano of modern music, since producer Arttu Tolonen has mixed the guitar to the most extreme of sounds. Maria Heinonen’s backing vocal stylings are right on the money again and you can hear even a startling guitar solo by the mastwer of modern music himself, Anssi 8000.

It’s a punk rock moment in our electric/digital era as we listen to "Rabbit Glove". The special way of pronouncing the English word "vacation" is just one of Anssi 8000's special attributes of singing by his own rules. The guitar riff is one you won’t forget, because it is so unforgettable.

"Construction Work" could be described as your basic Anssi 8000 song. Very minimal and raw is the usual way in his musical explorations of the world. Loud thumping drums played by feet and rocking guitar played by hands.

"Guantanamo" is nothing short of a modern rock’n’roll classic. The political rock song is a tornado of musical outbursts of raw guitar blues and pounding rock drum extravaganza. This studioversion has been made so that it sounds extra big with some very low synthezizer bass lines. "Guantanamo" has rocked many a house as the master of modern music has been playing his songs live across the global village of today’s modern world. Very startling yet smoothly grooving in the very same moment.

"Burning Heart" could be a title for a rock group like Survivor, but Anssi 8000 is not going to sound like AOR because he believes in being intense and intimate with his music. There’s raw power and humane life force in this rocking song.

"Endorsement Money" has some nice percussion in the chorus and it is a very rocking song completely in it's own category of songs about motorcycle races that shouldn't end in murder. You can hear how concerned the master of modern music sounds in this piece of rhythmic complexities and caribian-flawored percussive elementation.

The last number is another tale all together. "Fist The Size Of The World" is the darkest of tales ever told with the helping of a disco synthezizer bass line. Anssi 8000 tackles the subject matter of hopelessness with such a rigorous sincerity and stamina that you can not but feel a bit hopeful afterwards. It's a rare gift only a handful of performers in the world today possesses. To be able to bring hope to the fellow humans and touch their hearts in a very real way. The master of modern music does it again on "Svesse".
